It usually takes me some time before I can evaluate a song of mine. I never know how ‘good’ it is, in some universal way, but after some time passes I do have a better sense of how much I like it. The closer I am to it (in time) the harder it is to tell.

It is really difficult to make an honest evaluation of a song that I have written as there is always an emotional attachment to it that I cannot truly be unbiased. That being said, I have been trying to improve on all areas (even the ones that come naturally) and expose myself to folks who are akin to things I am not (like you, Tony… and others). I take to heart all areas you have mentioned. It enriches the perspective. Thanks.

This is terrific advice. I especially like what you say about doubling down on your strengths. And, as in sports, if you continue to improve or eliminate your weaknesses, the result will show.
