As I mentioned, pretty much every songwriter does this. Lennon & McCartney imitated Buddy Holly and many others. The Rolling Stones imitated Chuck Berry and Bobby Womack; Springsteen imitated Roy Orbison and Phil Spector. Ray Charles imitated Charles Brown. If you dig into the bio of most songwriters, you’ll almost always find some strong ‘influences’.
And, as I said, most don’t stop drawing water from the well.
